Nanoworms in eradication of tumor
It is collaboration of UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara and MIT scientists!!! The scientists have developed ‘nanoworms.’ It is the modern bio-device. It traces and destroys the tumors too small to detect by conventional means. It can flow in the blood stream. It moves without interference!! It moves from the body’s immune system to the place of the tumors. This discovery was inspired by the Sci-Fi movie in 1966 named “Fantastic Voyage.” In this film, a submarine was shrunk to microscopic unit. It is then injected into the bloodstream to remove a blood clot from the diplomat’s brain. Isn’t it amazing? This wonderful discovery caught my attention and thought it should be shared with my dear friends!! Hope you like it!! This treatment might be costly first but later I think the cost will come down!!

Frog breaking its own claws
Zoologists have discovered a frog, which is quite bizarre! It is hairy. It breaks its own bones! It produces cat-like extendable claws. Trichobatrachus robustus was described by Blackburn and colleges. It was studied in Harvard University. The name of the institute is Museum of Comparative Zoology. The study has been published in New Scientist. The claws puncture their way out of their pads of toe. This is quite unusual. I was reading Times Trends of Times of India and was quite surprised in the May 29, 2008 issue, which published this article. It is quite unusual and amazing and new species are discovered and their behavior surprise us…Probably a day might come when you will discover a new animal as you go traveling a distant land! Living world is so vast and so wonderful filled with beautiful plants and animals waiting for man to explore.

Heart changes with exercise
This study was done in Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Exercise cause change in the structure of the heart. The changes depend on the type of training you do. The endurance athletes show an increase in size of both the left and right ventricle. This change is seen after 90 days. The strength training shows growth in the left ventricles. But there is no change in the right ventricle size. The ability of the right ventricle is to fully relax between the beats. This is enhanced in endurance athletes. This is worsened for strength trainers. This study was done by Aaron Baggish. The studies show that the left ventricle is larger in trained athletes. As you all know, it is the main pumping chamber of the heart. There has been no research how exercise affects the right ventricle. This study is interesting for those who exercise and take care of their body. It has drawn my attention as I went to gym for 5 years but is presently doing yoga, rope jumping, jogging, pranayam, etc. I have some small equipments that takes care of my abdomen, chest, biceps, etc.

Ancient egyptian army headquarters discovered
Egyptian archeologists have discovered the ancient headquarters. I am excited to state that the army guarded Egypt for 1500 years. It guarded the north eastern borders. The place being guarded is known as Tharu. It lies in the Sinai peninsula about 3 km north east. It is in the modern town of Qantara. Mohamed Abdel Maksoud discovered this wonderful place. Levant was controlled by the Egyptians for some time. Abdel Maksoud has been working on the forts since 1986. The inscription has mentioned 3 pharaohs. They are as follows: 1. Tuthmosis II: It ruled from about 1512 BC. It built military installations. 2. Seti I. 3. Rameses II. It ruled Egypt from 1318 to 1237 BC. The site has mud brick fortresses from the time of Rameses II. It measured 500 m x 250 m with a 4 m high tower. The studies revealed that this fortress was the headquarter of the Egyptian army. So can you hear the footsteps of the army? Shouting of the army generals? This period is from the New Kingdom to Ptolemaic period. The New Kingdom began about 1570 BC. The Ptolemaic period ended with the death of the Cleopatra in the first century BC. To tell you the truth, in my school life, “I loved history.” In graduation, as anthropology Hons. Student in Bangabasi college, I loved to study prehistoric archeology. I loved to study excavations.

Amazing Platypus
Platypus lives in Australia. It is called as duck-billed Platypus. It is an egg laying and furry animal. It has webbed feet like the duck!! It is partly bird and partly reptile. A platypus genome has been created. The complex sequence of platypus will help the study of evolution. The immune, nervous and reproductive systems are focused. Jenny Graves thinks that it is the most eagerly awaited just after the chimpanzee genome. Mrs. Graves is the head of the Comparative Genomics Group at the Australian National University. The platypus genome has been published in the journal Nature. The platypus is the earliest offshoot of the mammalian lineage. It evolved 166 million years ago. It evolved from the ancestors that had the physical features both the mammals and reptiles. The platypus is a mammal as: 1. It produces milk. 2. Suckles its young. 3. Covered with fur. The platypus is a bird and reptile as: 1. It lays eggs. 2. Poisonous spurs on their hind legs like reptile. Glennie is the name of the female platypus whose genome was analyzed. The total number of genes present is roughly 18500. It is similar to vertebrates.

A Diabolic Incident----GHOST STORY
One day John returned from his school. He studies in St. Thomas’ Church School in Howrah Maidan. He heard from his dad that his grandmother died today. He was shocked to hear that his grandmother’s death is unnatural. She committed suicide. John lives in Howrah with his father, mother and grandmother. His father works in a college at Howrah as a professor. So his parents planned to go to Kolkata, where his grandmother lived. John’s grandmother used to live in a very old house, which is 100 years old. Her age was 60 years age. She had cervical cancer. She could not tolerate the pain and became a mental patient in her later life.
John, his father and mother went to their Kolkata home. His uncle lives just next to his grandmother. His grandmother was a wonderful person. She could sing and had longplaying records. She could perform embroidery work with excellence. She had even good a job offer in All India Radio, which she declined as she needs to educate her 5 children. So the uncle of John who lives besides him managed to break in the room as it was locked from inside. She saw that the old woman was hanging from the ceiling. Blood was dropping from the neck. She was hanging by means of a rope from the ceiling. Probably the pain was so intense, she could not tolerate and died in desperation!! She could not bear the acute pain that was killing her bit by bit as time passed by!
She had become mental patient later in her life. Before being a mental patient, she used to sit with her tanpura and sing. Her voice was melodious. She loved john so much. As her mental condition deteriorated, she felt that everybody was trying to poison her! She drove John’s family from her house. She used to destroy the water container with a sharp iron knife. She used to throw things at John and his family.
One day when John was sleeping, he saw an unusual fume coming out from his grandmother’s window. It was around 12 midnight……Only barking of dogs could be heard from the streets. The lamps in the streets are glowing and the lights are not bright. Some people are asleep in the street, the rickshawpullers and the slum dwellers. He opened the door and found that his grandma was sitting and there was a fire burning and an unusual smell was coming….it was like rotten flesh…He saw some carcases and found that they are of rodents, esp. rats. He was horrified to see them. He screamed: “Oooooooohhhhh!!” He went to his room and went to bed. He could not sleep the whole night.
Time passed fast and he shifted his house. One day after his return from school, he heard that his grandmother had died. Its not a natural death!. One of his father’s colleagues told them. He came in the afternoon and told him that his grandmother died yesterday. He went to his house in Kolkata the next day. He saw the patch of blood in the room. He heard that his grandmother hanged herself. There was a tenant beside her. They also could not tell when this occurred. Her body was taken out and it was cremated after an investigation as it was an unnatural death. This woman was fine when she was not affected with cancer but as the deadly disease got hold of her, she could not tolerate the pain and unusual things started developing and she suspected her son of poisoning her!

As the day comes to an end...........
As the day comes to an end...........The birds return to their nest........... you see thousands of birds in sky............ returning to their home.....sweet home........... their wings most fast.... there is a wonderfully soft breeze blowing.... some leaves are flying in the air,.... you sometimes hear the jackals... As they cry......a chill goes down in your spine..... The insect makes a humming sound... the willow the wisp shines and the whole night seems to be like a DIWALI,... Glittering lights.............. Just like a festival day in INDIA!

Life---Too Robotic!
My life has become robotic From morning to night I constantly fight with noise First..the noise of alarm clock saying tick tock! Then waiting............ For the train to come........... Taking me swiftly to destination! Without tension.
Reaching my office I put my headphone In my ears Doing this job for years!! Trying to understand each word Being pronounced by the doctor! Along with the noise Of the clinic Of the hospital Of all the fumblings Listening to the dictation Here with tension As every file needs accuracy As every moment is precious! Worth a few dollars As time is money! Like a hive full of honey!!!! Just managing to take some lunchtime This is our funtime! With chatting and gossipping With friends in front of the Gariahat shopping complex! Life seems to be too complex! In the age of shopping mall and multiplex! Shopping mall is the land of desire! Which can be seen far away by the neon signs! When you enter..you feel fine! You feel so happy So pleased........ As if all sorrows have wiped out You buy and buy with credit card! With bonus points in the end as reward! Returning again to my work In the world of sound In the world of lecture Given by doctors Pronouncing sometimes good Sometimes badly Causing pain to our ears Hampering our target! We finally present our productivity! To the supervisor Who feels irritated by our activity Throughout the day We do files our own way Sometimes with smile Sometimes in tear Nobody notices the dictation Sometimes we hear homonym Like a church hymn. The result is opposite! The angry editors chase us! Just like tiger chasing its prey! In its own way!
